How NEXUS Helps With Crossing the Border

If you are a Canadian who works in the United States or a U.S. citizen who works in Canada, the process of legally crossing the border on a regular basis without violating U.S. or Canadian Immigration laws can be stressful. However, a program set up by the Canada Border Services Agency and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection has been put in place to make your commute a little easier.

The program, called NEXUS allows travelers to cross the border without being stopped. Travelers can apply to be included in the program, If accepted, after paying a fee, travelers can cross the U.S./Canadian border at one of 21 designated land border crossings. If arriving to Canada by boat, there are 450 marine landings that will help expedite the entry process.

If you fly between the United States and Canada on a frequent basis, you can use the NEXUS self-serve kiosks at nine major international airports in Canada, as well as the U.S. Global Entry kiosks when entering the United States. You’ll receive expedited clearance through security lines on the United States and Canadian borders.

NEXUS can make your commute between the United States and Canada easier and faster, since it generally eliminates the need to stand in long lines to be processed. However, if you find yourself in violation of any crossing or immigration issues, speaking to a qualified legal professional well-versed in immigration issues may help alleviate the stress of the situation. This person can help you establish a credible defense in the event charges are filed against you.
